Home-Start Halifax was set up in October 1999 after the North Halifax area was identified as having high levels of needs due to deprivation. In response to this, Home-Start could help parents improve their parenting skills, confidence and access other services both within the statutory and voluntary sector. Initial funding was given and then in 2003 the Lottery Fund allocated three years grant funding which allowed us to expand the service. To sustain the service, Home-Start was given funds from the three Sure Start Local Programmes as well.
In April 2006 the scheme became incorporated and the name was changed to Home-Start Calderdale. The name change was in preparation for our aims to offer the service to the whole of the Calderdale area and indeed coincided with successfully securing grant funding from Lloyds TSB to develop a satellite office in Todmorden from which families in Todmorden, Hebden Bridge and Mytholmroyd could be supported.
Home-Start Calderdale is an independant charity, rooted within the community which it aims to serve. We work to nationally agreed standards, methods of practice and the criteria of the Home-Start Quality Assurance system as part of the national Home-Start UK family.
