Update from Sanham

Tuesday 18th October 2011

Sanham Aurangzeb has now been in post for a full year-doesn't time fly! Sanham was recruited thanks to a grant from Children in Need to allow Home-Start to better engage with the Black and Minority Ethnic community. Home-Start has, of course, always done this but we were really struggling to recruit volunteers from that community and so the language barrier was proving to be a real problem in allowing us to fully support families and children. Our aims were that Sanham would recruit 20 new volunteers with bi-lingual skills and provide support to 20 families in her first year. Quite a target!! We are now just in the process of conducting a full evaluation of that first year by asking the families involved to complete a brief survey telling us of the impact Home-Start has had on their family. We already can see though from our in-house statistics etc that Sanham has indeed met those targets and we now have (or will have when the current prep course ends) 20 volunteers from the BME community. We are very proud of the work that Sanham has done since joining us at Home Start and hope that she is just as successful in the 2 years left remaining of this project.

A big welcome to all of the new volunteers and a big thanks to Sanham and of course to Children in Need for their support.
